Bianca Pedrina investigates the newly implemented accessibility project in Pompeii which consists of iron elements embedded in the gaps of the historic Roman streets, and allows barrier-free access to the excavation site.
Pompei, Pompeii –the new city, founded in the 19th century, is written with one "i", two "ii" is used for the writing of the ancient Roman ruins. The old and the new become one in this project of the Parco Archeologico di Pompei.
An artist book with the same title was published in 2019 by Mark Pezinger Books, Vienna.

For Pompei, Pompeii Bianca Pedrina carefully inspects the relationship between form and function in a 2017 implemented accessibility project in Pompeii. The project consists of iron elements embedded in the gaps of the historic Roman streets, and allow barrier-free access to the excavation site. These custom-fit grids and ramps seem to melt between lava stones underfoot.
The contemporary architectural intervention into the ancient Roman city structure shows the individual city planning concepts of different eras and cultures and their handling of marginalised groups.

Pompei, Pompeii portraitiert das 2017 eingeführte Accessibility-Projekt in der gleichnamigen archäologischen Ausgrabungsstätte. Diese architektonische Intervention ermöglicht den Zugang zum Archäologiepark für Personen mit eingeschränkter Mobilität. Sie besteht unter anderem aus sorgfältig eingepassten Eisengittern und Rampen, welche in die Lücken der historischen römischen Straßen eingebettet worden sind und an kritischen Punkten die Überquerung der antiken Strassenkreuzungen erlauben.
Pompei, Pompeii - die im 19. Jahrhundert gegründete neue Stadt wird mit einem „i“ geschrieben, zwei „ii“ werden für die Schreibweise der antiken römischen Ruinen verwendet. Das Alte und das Neue werden in diesem Projekt des Parco Archeologico di Pompei vereint.
